EvergreenHealth Sleep Services offers sleep studies both overnight and during the day, which is ideal for shift workers who need to sleep during daytime hours.
Our six sleep study rooms are designed with comfort in mind to reduce anxiety and reproduce a more normal sleep environment.
We encourage patients to bring their own sleepwear, pillow, book and whatever else makes their experience pleasant. Bring your laptop, as our rooms are equipped with free wireless. Both male and female technologists are available.
Your sleep specialist will have predetermined your length of stay in our state-of-the-art facility.
When you arrive, one of our registered sleep technologists will take you to your private bedroom and facilities. They will explain all of the procedures for your study and offer assistance with any additional paperwork.
Several small sensors will be placed on your scalp, face, chest, abdomen and legs. The hook-up is a non-invasive, painless procedure; the sensors are attached with very mild paste that washes off in the morning.
The sensors will monitor your eye movements, muscle activity, brain waves, heart rate, airflow, respiratory effort and oxygen levels as you sleep. Your sleep patterns and video will be digitally recorded by the technologist, who will continuously monitor your sleep in a separate room throughout the night.
In the course of your sleep study, nearly 1,000 pages of data will be collected, along with a complete videotape record. This data is then thoroughly reviewed by a sleep medicine physician, who'll use the information to diagnose your medical condition and to determine your diagnosis and treatment options.
Your physician will discuss the results and treatment recommendations at a follow-up appointment.
Some patients with excessive daytime sleepiness benefit from an additional daytime study, the Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MSLT), to further assess a sleep disorder and diagnose rare conditions such as narcolepsy or idiopathic hypersomnia.
