LGBTQIA+ Patient Resources

As a community-owned hospital system, EvergreenHealth supports the health and wellness of everyone in our community, including those who identify as LGBTQIA+.

That's why, in addition to providing comprehensive care, we've developed the following list of resources for our LGBTQIA+ community members to support you in achieving wellness and a healthy lifestyle.

Educational Resources

The Washington State LGBTQ Commission launched a statewide survey in 2024 to help Washingtonians better understand the experiences of LGBTQIA+ community members. You can browse the survey's findings and read more about the commission's finding here. Additionally, the commission developed a document detailing the survey's findings as they pertained to health, including mental health, access to care and overall wellness.

The National LGBTQIA+ Health Education Center has numerous publications available on its website for both providers and patients seeking information about how to seek care and deliver treatment to members of the LGBTQIA+ community.

LGBTQIA+ community members face disproportionate health risks, especially when it comes to addiction and substance use disorder. The American Lung Association has more information and resources for those experiencing tobacco addiction.

HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment continues to be an important topic for the LGBTQIA+ community. The American College of Physicians provides a comprehensive page of facts, figures and clinical resources for screenings, education and general health tips for HIV/AIDS.

Additional education resources include:

  • Tips around seeking care from the Human Rights Campaign
  • The Ingersoll Gender Center offers online resources for transgender and gender nonconforming community members seeking jobs and looking for mutual support
  • Gender Spectrum provides a list of resources and FAQs to help everyone better understand gender and learn how to be more inclusive.

Resources for Providers

The providers and staff at EvergreenHealth are committed to creating an inclusive environment for our everyone in our community. The following resources help everyone stay up to date on health news regarding LGBTQIA+ care:

  • The American Medical Association has devoted a page to population care for LGBTQIA+ patients, including screening toolkits, research and policy updates.
  • For those interested in gaining a better understanding of sexual orientation and gender diversity, the American Psychological Association has numerous articles on this topic. These can be helpful in learning how to address these topics when delivering and receiving care.
  • Straight for Equality in Healthcare is a network of health care providers helping one another become more inclusive in how they care for their patients. This includes what it means to be an ally, discovering what the specific needs of LGBTQIA+ patients are and how they can take action to support the LGBTQIA+ community in their practice.
