Palliative Care Consultation

During the course of a progressive, complex illness, it can be very difficult to sort through the available treatment options and to feel assured that you are making the decisions that are best for you.

EvergreenHealth Palliative Care assists patients and families in facing the many issues that come with a serious illness. Guided by the values and priorities of the patient and his or her family, Palliative Care staff can help to coordinate care that is focused on achieving the best quality of life possible.

What Is Palliative Care?

EvergreenHealth Palliative Care is a specialty service that focuses on providing patients who have serious illnesses with relief from pain and other symptoms associated with their illnesses. Palliative care is an extra layer of support for patients and is appropriate at any age and at any stage in a serious illness and can be integrated with curative treatment.

Palliative Care providers spend time with patients and families clarifying care goals, and work to ensure that the medical care provided throughout each patient’s course of illness is aligned with these goals.

EvergreenHealth Palliative Care can help you:

  • better understand your condition and the treatment options available to you
  • access community resources needed for future planning
  • achieve better control of pain and other distressing symptoms such as nausea, shortness of breath and anxiety
  • optimize communication among all of your care providers

Where can I receive Palliative Care services?

Palliative Care services are offered in three locations:

  • in our office
  • at home, for patients unable to come to the office
  • for patients at EvergreenHealth Medical Center

What our patients say about Palliative Care

“I didn’t know what options there were for care if my mom didn’t want aggressive measures. Palliative Care helped me understand the available options, and that a shift in focus of care is not abandoning care.”

“We’re worried that Mom is nearing a point where she can’t make her own decisions. How do we talk to her about her wishes? We need to know what’s important to her, so that we can speak for her when she can’t.”

“It’s hard to think about what lies ahead for me and for my family. I feel overwhelmed, and I don’t know where to start.”
