EvergreenHealth Achieves Highest National Distinction for Nursing Excellence

The American Nurses Credentialing Center awarded EvergreenHealth the Magnet designation.

KIRKLAND, WA EvergreenHealth has achieved Magnet designation, the highest distinction nationally for excellent nursing care, from the American Nurses Credentialing Center. The designation was announced Friday, March 20.

The designation comes following a multi-year journey and provides a measurable, evidence-based confirmation of the community-owned hospital system's high-quality care.

"The Magnet recognition reflects exceptional professional practice, strong outcomes, innovation and a deep commitment to patients and families," said EvergreenHealth Chief Nursing Officer Mary Shepler, DNP, RN. "While the designation recognizes nursing, it represents the work of our entire organization. Magnet is a reflection of how we care for patients, how we support one another and how we work together as a team every day."

This Magnet designation demonstrates that EvergreenHealth's nursing leaders successfully align their nursing strategic goals to improve the organization's patient outcomes.

The hospital system has adopted the roadmap to nursing excellence, which benefits not only the organization but also its patients by recognizing the very best care delivered by a nursing staff supported to be the very best that it can be.

For EvergreenHealth's nursing staff, the Magnet designation shows that EvergreenHealth provides education and development through every career stage, which leads to greater autonomy at the bedside. Additionally, studies have shown that Magnet-recognized organizations deliver an overall better patient experience and have lower mortality rates among their patients than organizations without the distinction.

"This designation belongs to every person who contributes to the care of our patients," said Shepler. "Nurses, physicians, clinical teams, support services, leaders and staff across the organization all played a role in this achievement. Your commitment to excellence and your willingness to continuously learn, improve and support one another made this possible."

Most recently, EvergreenHealth Medical Center was named among the Top 50 Hospitals in America by Healthgrades for the sixth straight year—the only hospital in the Pacific Northwest to achieve this distinction. Healthgrades also named EvergreenHealth one of America's Top 100 Specialty Care Hospitals for 2026.
