EvergreenHealth Earns AMA 'Joy in Medicine' Bronze Recognition

The program guides and encourages organizations in improving physician job satisfaction and reducing burnout

KIRKLAND, Wash. – EvergreenHealth was recently recognized for its system-wide efforts to invest in the well-being of its medical staff by developing programs to reduce burnout and improve job satisfaction. The Kirkland-based hospital system was awarded a Bronze recognition from the American Medical Association as part of the 2025 Joy in Medicine™ Health System Recognition Program. Health systems recognized by the program have demonstrated sustainable commitment to improving physician and advanced practice providers well-being and reducing burnout, which in turn leads to higher quality patient care.

To earn the recognition, EvergreenHealth implemented system-wide strategies to reduce drivers of work-related burnout among physicians and providers. The health system demonstrated sustainable results achieved through collaboration, leadership and delegation, widespread commitment and sound processes.

"We are elated and proud to receive the AMA Joy of Medicine bronze award again, which would not have been possible without the work and efforts of our Provider Peer Support co-chairs, Dr. Ali Overland and Dr. Dani Henderson," said Medical Staff President Michael Mena, MD. "This recognition demonstrates our commitment to understanding and addressing issues in work efficiency, developing programs to support medical staff, and building a place that fulfills our team members' careers."

Since its inception in 2019, the Joy in Medicine™ Health System Recognition Program has recognized more than 160 organizations across the country. The American Medical Association awards this recognition every other year. In 2025, a total of 109 health systems nationwide, including EvergreenHealth, earned recognition with documented efforts to reduce system-level drivers of work-related burnout and demonstrated competencies in commitment, assessment, leadership, efficiency of practice environment, teamwork, and support.
