EvergreenHealth Again Named Among America's 50 Best Hospitals by Healthgrades
The health system is the only public hospital district in Washington state to place in the top 1% of hospitals nationwide
Kirkland, Wash. – For the second year in a row, EvergreenHealth has been named among America's 50 Best Hospitals™ by Healthgrades, which places the health system among the top 1% of hospitals across the country. According to Healthgrades' 2022 Report to the Nation, EvergreenHealth is the only hospital in the South Puget Sound region to achieve the America's 50 Best Hospitals award for two consecutive years, and it's the only public hospital district in the state to earn the distinction, as well.
To determine America's 50 Best Hospitals for 2022, Healthgrades independently evaluated about 4,500 hospitals across the country, analyzing a range of metrics and inpatient data to measure quality and safety across multiple specialty lines and areas. During the study period (Medicare fiscal years 2018-2020), hospitals needed to demonstrate superior performance in clinical outcomes for patients in the Medicare population across at least 21 of 32 most common inpatient conditions and procedures—as measured by objective performance data.
Since 2014, EvergreenHealth has placed among Healthgrades' top 250 hospitals each year for nine consecutive years, and it has placed among Healthgrades' top 100 hospitals for six consecutive years, beginning in 2017.
"We are honored to be named among the top 1% of hospitals in the nation once again. This is a testament to the teams across our health system who continue to strive for excellence in every aspect of delivering EvergreenHealth's safe, high-quality clinical care and service to our patients and families. As we celebrate our health system's 50th anniversary this year, recognitions like these remind us of our ongoing commitment to our values and purpose to advance the health of the community, which has guided EvergreenHealth physicians, providers, staff and volunteers since the beginning," said Jeff Tomlin, MD, CEO of EvergreenHealth.
According to Healthgrades, from 2018-2020, if all hospitals performed similarly to those achieving Healthgrades America's 50 Best Hospitals Award, 157,292 lives could potentially have been saved. Patients treated in hospitals achieving the Healthgrades top 50 hospitals recognition on average had a 21.7% lower risk of dying than if they were treated in hospitals that did not receive this award, as measured across 17 rated conditions and procedures where mortality is the outcome.*
"Being among America's 50 Best Hospitals is the top achievement from Healthgrades," said Brad Bowman, MD, chief medical officer and head of data science at Healthgrades. "Hospitals like EvergreenHealth are truly leading the nation and setting the standard for care delivery. We commend EvergreenHealth for their dedication to patient care and committing themselves to keeping their communities safe."
In addition to receiving recognition among the top 1% of hospitals in Washington state, the health system earned repeat recognition for excellence in stroke care, pulmonary care, gastrointestinal care, and gastrointestinal surgery (previously known as general surgery), as part of Healthgrades' 2022 Report to the Nation. EvergreenHealth was also named one of America's 100 best hospitals in spine surgery for the first time this year.
