EvergreenHealth Orthopedic Care Welcomes Avi Goodman, MD
Kirkland, Wash. – EvergreenHealth Orthopedic Care recently welcomed Avi Goodman, MD, to its team of providers in Kirkland, Washington.
Dr. Goodman is fellowship-trained in both hand and upper extremity surgery and orthopedic trauma surgery. He specializes in nerve compression, arthritis, fractures, ligament tears and instability, tendon repairs and all other issues from arm to fingertip. His practice is focused on non-operative management, minimally invasive surgery, as well as open surgery, if needed. Additionally, he provides treatment for lower extremity fractures, including hip, ankle and more.
“Dr. Goodman brings a wealth of clinical knowledge regarding hand and upper extremity surgery and orthopedic surgery to our health system,” said Chris Bredeson, chief operating officer at EvergreenHealth. “His dedication to caring for each patient holistically and establishing partnerships with his patients will add immense value to our Eastside community and beyond.”
Dr. Goodman focuses on providing patient-centered care and listens to his patients so he can better understand their symptoms and individualized health care needs. In addition, he approaches care by partnering with each of his patients and exploring non-operative methods, such as occupational therapy, braces and injections, before discussing surgery.
According to Dr. Goodman, he chose to pursue medicine as his way to help others. He decided to specialize in orthopedic surgery because it provides mechanical solutions to physiologic problems. He particularly enjoys helping people have their best chance at regaining their function and returning to what they love.
Outside of patient care, Dr. Goodman is active in the orthopedic community, where he’s published over 50 peer-reviewed manuscripts that focus on the hand, wrist, elbow, sports injuries, cost-effectiveness and value-based care. In addition to authoring, he’s a journal reviewer for the Journal of Hand Surgery, Sports Health and The Physician and Sportsmedicine. In addition, Dr. Goodman is a committee member of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and the Orthopedic Trauma Association.
Dr. Goodman formerly served as a sideline physician for collegiate and high school athletes in Rhode Island, including at Brown University where he completed his residency in orthopedic surgery and one of his fellowships in orthopedic trauma.
After traveling across the country for medical training, Dr. Goodman, his wife and their rescue dog are excited to call the Pacific Northwest home. When Dr. Goodman isn’t caring for patients, he’s exploring the outdoors by way of hiking, biking, running, surfing, or he’s reading and practicing photography.
