EvergreenHealth Earns “A” Rating from The Leapfrog Group for Outstanding Hospital Safety
Kirkland, Wash. – EvergreenHealth announced today that it has received an “A” rating from The Leapfrog Group, a leading independent watchdog organization on hospital quality and safety. This is the fourth consecutive year that the health system has been awarded with Leapfrog’s “A” rating for patient safety, as part of its annual spring review.
“Our ‘A’ rating is a testament to the hard work of our physicians, staff and volunteers and their dedication to our patients,” said Jeff Tomlin, MD, CEO of EvergreenHealth. “Across our health system we share a commitment to serving our patients, families and the greater community with high-quality, safe and compassionate care and service, and this recognition from Leapfrog is a reflection of that commitment.”
Leapfrog’s Hospital Safety Grade report scores hospitals across the country, assessing how well they keep patients safe from errors, accidents and infections. The Spring 2021 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades report assigns letter grades – A, B, C, D and F – to general acute-care hospitals across the U.S. by using 28 measures of publicly available hospital safety data. These measurements are compiled by The Leapfrog Group, CMS, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, the CDC and the American Hospital Association.
Of the more than 2,700 hospitals graded, 33% earned an A grade, 24% earned a B, 35% earned a C, 7% earned a D and less than 1% of hospitals earned an F. EvergreenHealth is one of only 15 hospitals in Washington to achieve an “A” rating this spring, according to Leapfrog’s latest Hospital Safety Grades report. The other hospitals to receive an “A” rating in Washington include Overlake Hospital Medical Center, Legacy Salmon Creek Hospital and University of Washington Medical Center.
“An ‘A’ safety grade is an elite designation that your community should be proud of,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “The past year has been extraordinarily difficult for hospitals, but EvergreenHealth shows us it is possible to keep a laser focus on patients and their safety, no matter what it takes.”
Founded in 2000 by large employers and other purchasers, The Leapfrog Group is a national nonprofit organization driving a movement towards a better health care system by improving the choices patients can make and preventing needless deaths. The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade was developed in 2012 under the guidance of a national expert panel and is calculated and peer-reviewed by top patient safety experts.
In addition to earning the top grade from Leapfrog, EvergreenHealth is named as one of Healthgrades’ “America’s 50 Best Hospitals” and was recently recognized in Newsweek’s “Best Hospitals 2021 – United States” list.
