EvergreenHealth Nationally Recognized for Third Consecutive Year for Outstanding Hospital Safety
The health system was awarded an “A” rating from The Leapfrog Group
Kirkland, Wash. – EvergreenHealth announced today that it has received an “A” rating from The Leapfrog Group, a leading independent watchdog organization on hospital quality and safety. This is the third consecutive year that the health system has been awarded with Leapfrog’s “A” rating for patient safety, as part of its annual fall review.
“We are continually focused on providing high-quality patient care and service, as well as ensuring absolute safety for our patients, families and the greater community,” said Jeff Tomlin, MD, CEO of EvergreenHealth. “This recognition is due to the shared commitment of our physicians, staff and volunteers; we are honored to be entrusted with our community’s health.”
Leapfrog’s Hospital Safety Grade report scores hospitals across the country, assessing how well they keep patients safe from errors, accidents and infections. EvergreenHealth is one of only 18 hospitals in Washington to achieve an “A” rating this fall, according to Leapfrog’s latest Hospital Safety Grades report.
The Fall 2020 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades assign letter grades – A, B, C, D and F – to general acute-care hospitals across the U.S. by using 28 measures of publicly available hospital safety data. These measurements are compiled by The Leapfrog Group, CMS, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, the CDC and the American Hospital Association. Of the more than 2,600 hospitals graded, EvergreenHealth was among the 34% that earned an A grade, while 24% earned a B, 35% earned a C, 7% earned a D and less than 1% of hospitals earned an F.
Founded in 2000 by large employers and other purchasers, The Leapfrog Group is a national nonprofit organization driving a movement towards a better health care system by improving the choices patients can make and preventing needless deaths. The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade was developed in 2012 under the guidance of a national expert panel and is calculated and peer-reviewed by top patient safety experts.
“As the nation copes with a challenging pandemic, our gratitude extends to hospital leadership and health care workers everywhere for their tremendous dedication,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “We hope this ‘A’ helps to thank the people who work and volunteer for EvergreenHealth. They are role models in putting patients first, and their service has been extraordinary in our country’s time of need.”
In addition to high scores from Leapfrog, EvergreenHealth is named as one of Healthgrades’ “America’s 100 Best Hospitals” and was recognized in U.S. News & World Report’s “2020 Best Hospitals” rankings.
