EvergreenHealth Monroe Board Chair Alice Cabe Earns WSHA Health Care Governance Certification

The certificate represents commitment to effective health care leadership

Alice CabeMonroe, Wash.— Alice Cabe, chair of EvergreenHealth Monroe’s Board of Commissioners, recently earned certification from the Washington State Hospital Association (WSHA) in health care governance.

The continuing education program is designed to help enhance the skills and expertise of those who govern Washington state health systems through educational courses and events, ranging from community health needs assessments to federal and state health care policies.

“We are so proud of Alice’s leadership and dedication to helping EvergreenHealth Monroe continue to meet the needs of patients and families throughout Sky Valley. Her success in completing WSHA’s governance program is another example of our organization-wide commitment to enhance our care and service through effective leadership,” said Lisa LaPlante, MHA, EvergreenHealth Monroe’s chief administrative officer. “As a public hospital district, our Board of Commissioners represents the voices of those we serve, and we are honored to work in partnership to advance the health of our community.”

WSHA launched its Health Care Governance Education program in 2019 for members of boards of directors and public hospital districts’ elected commissioners to help participants assess and enhance board effectiveness within Washington state health systems and hospitals. Since the program’s creation, 59 individuals representing 29 hospitals and health systems across Washington state earned their WSHA Health Care Governance certification, and 105 individuals logged at least one credit hour in 2019. Participants must log 12 credits to achieve certification.

“Excellent governance is essential to excellent hospitals,” WSHA President & CEO Cassie Sauer said. “We are inspired by the popularity this program has garnered, as it shows the commitment our health care leaders have to improving their own skills to better serve their communities.”

The EvergreenHealth Monroe Board of Commissioners is comprised of elected officials of Snohomish County Public Hospital District No. 1, who serve a rotating six-year term. Cabe joined the EvergreenHealth Monroe board in 1994. She brings to the board a strong interest in community health, which she first discovered during her university work in microbiology and public health. Cabe is immersed in the health care industry, where she is employed as a manager of a hospital laboratory. She has lived in Snohomish County with her family for many years and actively participates in community functions. Her current term extends to December 2021.
