EvergreenHealth Celebrates DAISY Award Winners

Kirkland, Wash. – EvergreenHealth is proud to recognize three nurses with its quarterly DAISY Award, a recognition bestowed upon exceptional nurses who have exceeded expectations by delivering the highest quality of care. Recipients are nominated by EvergreenHealth patients, families and fellow providers.

Honorees of the most recent Daisy Award include:

  • Christen Bingaman, RN, EvergreenHealth Critical Care Unit
  • Evelyn Sheets, RN, EvergreenHealth Progressive Care Unit
  • Kristin Eilers, RN, BSN, EvergreenHealth Children’s Services

“Every quarter, we are proud to recognize EvergreenHealth’s remarkable nurses with the DAISY Award. These caring and professional health care providers are a reflection of our commitment to providing comprehensive, compassionate high-quality care to ensure the well-being of our patients, their families and the community we serve,” said Mary Shepler, RN, BSN, MA, NEA-BC, Senior Vice President, Chief Nursing Officer at EvergreenHealth. “With the DAISY Award, we honor our nurses who go above and beyond to demonstrate compassionate care.”

Christen Bingaman, a critical care RN, was nominated for her compassionate care by the sister of a patient who was treated for severe trauma and required long-term recovery care. Bingaman treated the patient with the utmost care, consistently checking in even when she wasn’t called. Bingaman was described as a “beam of sunshine,” who remained gracefully in control of every situation and always kept a smile on her face.

Evelyn Sheets, an RN in EvergreenHealth’s Progressive Care Unit, is recognized for her swift care and attentiveness in proactively communicating critical patient information to her patient’s attending physician. When the care team realized that the patient required additional imaging, Sheets helped coordinate with providers across multiple departments to expedite a CT scan. The results of the scan indicated that the patient needed emergency abdominal surgery, and Sheets provided comfort to the patient and her family while quickly and efficiently prepping the patient for the procedure. Her immediate care and thoughtful support enabled the patient to receive a diagnosis and life-saving emergency care.

Kristin Eilers, RN, BSN, on EvergreenHealth’s Children’s Services team, was nominated for her kindness, compassion and for listening to her patient’s needs throughout the family’s hospital stay after the birth of twins. The patient said Eilers checked in daily, ensuring she and her husband knew how to care for their newborns. In one instance, the patient noticed that one of her infants was not maintaining oxygen saturations, although the level was not significant enough to set off alarms. The patient immediately expressed her concerns to Eilers, who trusted her, listened completely and alerted the attending physician. Eilers’ considerate listening skills and quick action helped the patient feel heard and made her experience one she’ll always remember.

The DAISY Foundation is a national non-profit organization that partners with health care systems to provide ongoing recognition of the clinical skill and compassion nurses offer to patients and families every day. EvergreenHealth invites patients and visiting families to submit nominations year-round to recognize the nurses who make their visits to EvergreenHealth memorable. Additionally, providers who witness extraordinary acts are invited to nominate their peers. DAISY Award recipients are honored by colleagues and patients during a ceremony in their care units each quarter.

Providing compassionate care is part of EvergreenHealth’s commitment to its community. The health system is also committed to growing alongside those it serves, and is keeping pace with the community’s growth by upgrading its facilities and infrastructure to ensure its ability to provide care in the safest environment.
