EvergreenHealth’s Barb Jensen Honored by Trauma Center Association of America for Outstanding Leadership
Barb Jensen, RN, CHEP, serves as manager of the health system’s trauma services and Forensic Nurse Examiner team
Kirkland, Wash. – EvergreenHealth congratulates Barb Jensen, RN, CHEP, on her achievement as recipient of the Trauma Center Association of America’s (TCAA) Award of Distinction for Outstanding Leadership. The association’s award, which is new this year, recognizes a member of TCAA who has made a significant impact in the field of trauma through leadership, clinical achievement or advocacy.
Jensen has served as a key figure at EvergreenHealth for nearly two decades, most recently as manager of trauma services. Having practiced as a registered nurse for 39 years, Jensen is also an active advocate for survivors of physical and sexual assault, and she currently serves as a member of EvergreenHealth’s Forensic Nurse Examiner Team, as well.
Dr. Brad Younggren, EvergreenHealth’s medical director of emergency management, nominated Jensen for the award, describing her as innovative, collaborative and “absolutely irreplaceable.”
“I have never met another individual with the work ethic and dedication Barb exhibits on a daily basis,” Dr. Younggren said. “She is a passionate leader who leads by example and is never interested in the personal rewards associated with her work. Everything she does, she does to advance the health and well-being of those we serve, and I can think of no one more deserving of this award.”
Jensen has channeled her commitment, compassion and tireless advocacy into spearheading various initiatives to benefit the greater community. For example, she introduced EvergreenHealth’s Forensic Nurse Examiner Team to school districts throughout the Puget Sound region to encourage discussion, disclosure and counseling referrals.
Additionally, Jensen helped launch a geriatric chest trauma protocol for physicians and hospital staff and championed Stop the Bleed education courses in the region, which to date has provided training in life-saving bleeding control techniques to over 3,000 hospital and community participants. She also represents EvergreenHealth as a member of the Regional Trauma Council, where she is well respected for her ability to partner and develop resolutions to difficult issues. She is often called upon to advise groups on trauma-related topics throughout the state, as well.
Jensen was honored with her award on April 30, 2019, at TCAA’s Annual Conference in Las Vegas.
As one of the 383 TCAA-member hospitals in the U.S., EvergreenHealth has access to TCAA’s individualized advice from experienced consultants in trauma center operations, finance and trauma systems. Through this partnership and the work of dedicated, passionate employees like Jensen, EvergreenHealth’s emergency department is designated as a Level III Trauma center by the Washington State Department of Health – demonstrating 24-hour immediate response to emergency situations and comprehensive quality assessments.
