Each year, millions of adults ages 65 and older fall. People with disabilities are also at high risk.

Falls can cause moderate to severe injuries, such as hip fractures and head traumas, and can increase the risk of early death.

Fortunately, falls are preventable!

Be proactive by attending this valuable class! You will learn how to:

  • Stay active and independent
  • Minimize risk from factors such as weakness, poor vision, and medications
  • Organize your environment to reduce risk
  • Safely manage home and self-care activities
  • Stay strong and physically active

Using New Technology for Function and Independence

Assistive technology (AT) can be life changing for people who have limitations due to multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s Disease or other neurological disorders.

The landscape of available assistive technology is constantly growing and changing. This workshop will bring you up to date on the latest developments in AT, including tools to help you move, manage self-care and household tasks, drive, and cope with visual impairment or cognitive problems.

You will learn about resources in our community to help you find AT tailored to your specific needs and learn to use it, as well as resources to help you pay for AT and modifications to your vehicle or home.

Don’t miss this exciting workshop about tools to keep you active and independent.


Classes

NEURO-NUTRITION CLASS
An interactive class and discussion group to learn more about how to:

  • Plan a good basic diet that provides the nutrition your body needs
  • Understand the calories needed to achieve or maintain a reasonable weight
  • Develop eating strategies to prevent GI issues like constipation and slow digestion
  • Schedule meals for best medication action
  • Protect your energy by planning and preparing meals

Class is for:  people with all neurological disorders

FROM-THE-GROUND-UP STRENGTH AND FLEXIBILITY
A mostly-mat based class designed to give a safe and effective workout. Class includes elements of yoga, tai chi, dumbbell exercise and exercise bands.

Class is for: people with neurological disorders such as MS, Parkinson's and stroke

Meets Mondays and Fridays, 2-3 p.m.

Fee: $20 for each four-week session

DANCE FOR PARKINSON’S
Join the internationally acclaimed Dance for PD® class to stretch and strengthen your body and use eyes, ears and touch to control movement through dance. Come prepared to move with live accompaniment and discover how exhilarating it is to dance - mentally, spiritually and physically. TREMOLOS – CHOIR FOR PARKINSON’S

Improve the volume, projection and quality of your voice through a fun series of breathing and vocal exercises. Choir director, Judi Spencer will lead you through singing classic songs with accompaniment.

Support group for care partners of someone with Parkinson's disease. Please note this group's time and location correlates with the Men's Group and the Women Living with Parkinson's Group so both partners can participate.

ONE-ON-ONE PEER CONNECTIONS
MS affects everyone differently- that’s why it is important to have someone who understands to support you.

Through the Peer Connections program you can search for and connect with a peer support volunteer who has “been there” and can provide you with helpful tips, suggestions and emotional support for the challenges that MS throws at you. You can connect with your peer via one-on-one ongoing telephone calls, email conversations or messages within our online community.
