Sleeve Gastrectomy

Sleeve gastrectomy (often called "the sleeve") is a laparoscopic procedure, which removes approximately 80 percent of your stomach.

The remaining stomach is a tubular pouch in the shape of a sleeve.

How Sleeve Gastrectomy Aids Weight Loss

After surgery, three main factors work together to contribute to your weight loss:

1. You can't eat as much due to the smaller size of your stomach
2. There's a significant reduction in the secreting of hunger hormones from your stomach
3. You will feel full for a longer period of time because the new stomach tube slows the passage of food

You may lose up to 55-to-60 percent of your excess weight during the first year after surgery.
