Urinary Stress Incontinence

Note: this information is prepared for patients of EvergreenHealth OBGYN Care, Tan

The most common form of urinary incontinence in women is stress urinary incontinence (SUI), or the unintentional loss of urine when you cough, laugh, sneeze or exercise. It is estimated that around one in three women get SUI at some point in their lives. Although it can happen at any age, it is more common in women between the ages of 35 and 60.

There are a number of treatment options for urinary incontinence. If you have stress incontinence, it may limit your work or social life. Treatments are available to cure incontinence or significantly reduce its effects on your life. Some treatment options include consistent use of Kegal exercises, lifestyle changes, pessaries or surgery.

Stress urinary incontinence is not a normal part of aging, it can be treated and in some cases, eliminated entirely. If you are experiencing unintentional loss of urine, contact our office to schedule an appointment to discuss treatment options with your physician.
