The knee joint is made up of 3 articulating bones. The femur (upper bone), the tibia (the lower bone) and the patella (kneecap). Those three bones create the knee joint and allow the knee to bend like a hinge. Each of those bones are lined with cartilage which is a smooth surface that protects the bones from injury and acts as a cushion for your joint.
