Types of Diabetes

Type 1

Type 1 diabetes can occur at any age, but it is most often diagnosed in children, adolescent or young adults.

Type 2

Type 2 diabetes usually occurs slowly over time. Most people with the disease are overweight when they are diagnosed.

Gestational

Gestational diabetes is high blood sugar that starts or is first diagnosed during pregnancy.

Symptoms of Diabetes

Diabetes symptoms vary depending on how high your blood sugar is elevated. Some people, especially those with Type 2 diabetes, may not experience symptoms initially. In Type 1 diabetes, symptoms tend to come on quickly and be more severe.

Some of the signs and symptoms of type 1 and type 2 diabetes include:

  • Blurry vision
  • Excess thirst
  • Fatigue
  • Hunger
  • Frequent urination
  • Weight loss
