The Booth Gardner Parkinson’s Care Center is conducting a prospective cross-sectional study to see whether small skin biopsies can be used as a novel method of detecting diseases collectively known as ‘synucleinopathies’ which include Parkinson disease, multiple system atrophy, dementia with Lewy bodies and pure autonomic failure.
Who may be eligible to participate?
Male and female participants 40-99 years of age with (a) prior clinical diagnosis of Parkinson's disease, Multiple System Atrophy, Dementia with Lewy bodies or Pure Autonomic Failure; OR (b) no history of clinical exams or symptoms suggestive of synucleinopathy. Other inclusion/exclusion criteria may apply.
What does participation involve?
Eligible participants will undergo a screening evaluation that includes a thorough medical history, physical and neurologic exam, orthostatic vitals, questionnaires and skin biopsy completed in one visit. Study participation is expected to last 2-5 hours during a single study visit.
