Philosophy of Care

I was drawn to Hematology/Oncology by the depth of patient-doctor relationships in this field. To a greater degree than in some other areas, I feel that in oncology I'm able to truly develop deep and meaningful connections with my patients, understand their values and priorities, and help them through some of the most challenging times of their lives. I believe in open communication and collaborative decision-making to help patients identify their goals, choose the treatment approach consistent with those goals, and provide solid support and guidance throughout their journey.

Personal Information

I was born in Portland, Oregon, but grew up near Ann Arbor, Michigan, and went to the University of Michigan (Go Blue!). After college I lived in New England for years - during which I met my wife - and we moved (back) to the Northwest in 2018. I was drawn to Hematology/Oncology by the depth of patient relationships that I witnessed while a medical student and resident, and I felt that this is the field I would find most rewarding and meaningful. Throughout my career, my patients have been a constant source of inspiration and motivation, and those relationships are really what I find most rewarding in my career. Outside of work, I'm passionate about nature and the environment, and I love hiking, kayaking, cycling, bird-watching, and generally spending time outdoors with my wife and my young son.
