Personal Information

I have always been drawn to people with disability. So, I chose Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation as my specialty. I find that working in multiple sclerosis is always challenging and rewarding on a personal level.
I grew up in Colorado and California, the son of a nurse and a radiologist. After residency, I wanted to work with disadvantaged patients and spent nine years at a leprosy and rehabilitation center in Northern Thailand. I came back with a lot of good memories and married a nurse who I met over there. Together, we have a son who is going to public school in Kirkland and always keeping his parents entertained. In my free time, I enjoy going to soccer games, jogging, gardening, listening to audio books. I am a dog-lover.

Community Involvement

I am on the Healthcare Advisory Committee of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and meet with three MS Support groups on a regular basis.
I have helped teach a course to physical therapy, occupational therapy and orthotist students at the University of Washington annually since 2005.

Dr. Brown was everything I was looking for. He actively listened, had thoroughly gone through my chart, spent the perfect amount of time explaining things to me and helping me figure out my next steps. He was also respectful of my intelligence and concerns.

Dr Brown was lovely, listened & was clearly very caring. He was friendly & personable which was delightful! While I already knew I didn't have clear MS indicators (lesions), the outcome or getting a fairly benign plan was still a little confusing - "you have an abnormal brain MRI but everything is fine" is almost how I felt which just seemed slightly underwhelming given all my symptoms & MRI. I left feeling a little helpless & also in the dark about what's going on. That's probably not Dr Brown's fault. But Its hard all the same. Nothing in the appt was a surprise or new to me as I'd done my research m. I had hoped for more insight I think? Some clarity that I couldn't get through research perhaps. But! Im super appreciative that I now have someone to check in with through the portal & also he is checking back in, in a year. I have no doubt he'd be an excellent provider should MS have been diagnosed or will be diagnosed but mostly with my situation, I had all the answers already as I worked so hard on researching & think I was just disappointed that he couldn't do more to both explain or resolve what's going on.
