Philosophy of Care

I believe every person has a passion, a sport, an activity that makes them feel alive. There may be a time that we face physical barriers to these passions. No matter if it's an Ironman triathlon or simply chasing grandkids, it is vitally important to restore that function and I work to find the barriers and solutions.

Personal Information

When I was younger, I thought my main passion was science and how it is applied to the human body...so I initially set out to be a genetic engineer. However, I discovered my true passion is people and how we interact with science, so I became an osteopathic physician. I have always been interested in spinal and musculoskeletal conditions because that's where I have always felt that science doesn't yet have an answer all of our questions and I wanted to find answers.
My passion for people and science has kept me on the cutting edge of diagnosis and treatment in my field and brought me to EvergreenHealth.
Seeking balance, my family, sports and the outdoors keep me grounded.

Community Involvement

Outside of medicine, I rescue and foster/rehabilitate horses from slaughter pens.
In my field, I stay active in multiple medical societies to foster my goal of better patient care. I am the Chairperson of the Exercise Committee and serve on the Resident/Fellow Education Committee for North American Spine Society. For the International Spinal Interventions Society, I am the Vice-Chair for the Patient Safety Committee, serve on the Education Committee and am a certified instructor.

I trust Dr. Stout. Knowing that being alive, sometimes means, tolerating some pain, Alison works hard to help me live as functionally as possible, for as long as possible. I love that she stays up to date with newer strategies for solving old problems and that she'll offer those newer treatments.

She waltzed in with lots of energy and was in a hurry. She did not have any patience for questions or listening to me. I was able to tell her about one area of pain but not the others. Because of pain, I was not able to think or answer quickly. With time being of the essence, I had wanted to talk about a plan of action and a timeline for things. I have been in extreme pain for nearly 2 years and do not have another 6 months to try and diagnosis my problems. I need to have tests done now, and when she told me that she wants to do a ultrasound guided steroid injection, I asked about doing a complete diagnostic ultrasound first and she said that would be done when the injection was done. I find it difficult to believe that a diagnostic ultrasound can be done adequately along with a ultrasound guided injection done at the same 40 minute appointment. Since I was unable to discuss the other areas of pain with her, she may have believed that there was only one and there would be time for one. I am going to message her this morning and send provide information that I was unable to give her during the appointment. This was my first visit to her. Neither of us know each other.
