Chief Executive Officer
Dr. Jeff Tomlin became CEO of EvergreenHealth in July 2019, and is responsible for the leadership of all aspects of EvergreenHealth's purpose, mission and vision. He had served as interim CEO since March 2019.
Dr. Tomlin came to EvergreenHealth in 1990 as a staff anesthesiologist after completing medical school and his residency at the University of Washington. He was subsequently named medical director for the Evergreen Surgical Center, and then added the medical directorship for surgical services at EvergreenHealth. In 2010, he joined the executive team as senior vice president and Chief Medical and Quality Officer.
He is a graduate of the United States Naval Academy, and spent six years as a Marine Corps pilot prior to medical school and continued his military service after medical school as a member of the Navy Reserve Medical Corps. He has served on the Northshore School District Wall of Honor Committee, and in 2017 was named winner of the Seattle Business Magazine Washington Leaders in Health Care Award for Outstanding Medical Director/Chief Medical Officer.
Chief Operating Officer
Chris Bredeson oversees all facets of health care services and operations, the EvergreenHealth Medical Group and strategic planning for the EvergreenHealth system.
A Pacific Northwest native, Bredeson has dedicated his entire career to health care, serving in leadership positions since 1994. Before joining EvergreenHealth in December 2019, he was president and COO of MultiCare Good Samaritan Hospital in Puyallup. Prior to that, he was an administrator for the MultiCare Regional Cancer Center & Oncology service line.
Bredeson earned his bachelor’s degree in Speech Communication from the University of Washington, and his MBA from City University of Seattle. He has been active in both Rotary and the Chamber of Commerce, and is a board member of the Equestrian Institute.
Chief Medical and Quality Officer
Dr. Ettore Palazzo is responsible for EvergreenHealth’s clinical quality and safety. He also oversees risk management, surgical services, pharmacy and the medical staff services.
Dr. Palazzo originally joined EvergreenHealth in 2003 as an Internal Medicine Hospitalist Physician and served as the Managing Physician for the Adult Hospitalist service from 2004 through 2006. In 2014, he was appointed Quality Medical Director with a primary focus on readmission reduction, later expanding his quality work to include hospital mortality review and opiate prescription reduction initiatives.
He currently serves as a Quality Committee member for the Eastside Health Network and is a member of the Eastside Health Alliance Quality Council. In addition to his quality role, Dr. Palazzo has worked closely with the Information Technology and Clinical Informatics Departments, first as a CPOE Physician Champion and most recently as IT Medical Director for inpatient services with a focus on PowerPlan review.
Chief Financial Officer
Tina Mycroft is responsible for directing EvergreenHealth’s finances and privacy initiatives.
Mycroft joined EvergreenHealth in September 2016 after more than 20 years of leadership and financial management in both the acute care hospital and large medical group settings. She most recently served as CFO of St. Joseph Heritage Healthcare, a California-based, nonprofit medical practice foundation composed of more than 750 providers within eight medical groups and more than 1,300 physicians in an affiliate network model integrated with 10 hospital sponsors across St. Joseph Health/California.
She graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Pepperdine University in Malibu, California. Mycroft has been active in the communities in which she works, including serving as the Vice President of Acacia Elementary School Site Council in Fullerton, as a member of Las Lomas Verdes Swim Club Budget Committee, and a past member of the Board of Directors for Health Associates Federal Credit Union.
Chief Nursing Officer
Mary Shepler is responsible for inpatient nursing areas, emergency services, overall nursing practice and patient experience for the entire EvergreenHealth system.
Shepler joined EvergreenHealth in 2019 after 34 years with SCL Health in Colorado, where she began her health care career as a new graduate registered nurse working on the medical floor. Before coming to EvergreenHealth, she served for nine years as Vice President of Patient Care Services/Chief Nursing Officer for SCL Health – St. Joseph Hospital in Denver, a 400-bed teaching hospital with 1990 full-time-equivalent staff members and 1,618 medical staff.
Shepler had direct accountability for providing strategic leadership of full-scale nursing services and patient care services, driving significant improvements in patient satisfaction and nurse communication. She led the organization through its first American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) Magnet Designation in 2017, receiving 5 “Exemplar” ratings.
Shepler earned her bachelor’s degree in Nursing from the University of Northern Colorado and her master’s in Organizational Management from the University of Phoenix. She also holds a Nurse Executive–Advanced Certification (NEA-BC). She expects to complete a doctoral degree in Nursing Practice, Leadership with Capella University next year.
Chief Information Officer
Jason Wood is responsible for managing and successfully implementing information and computer technology systems that benefit our organizational mission, vision and values – removing barriers, streamlining complex tasks and enhancing the care and service we provide our patients and community.
Wood joined EvergreenHealth in 2021 having earlier served as Chief Information Officer for OptumCare – Northwest, which includes The Everett Clinic, The Polyclinic, Northwest Physicians Network, Physician Care Network, Physicians Care Alliance,
Oregon Groups & Optum Care Network – Washington.
Over the course of his career, Wood has specialized in health care where, he says, information technology is woven into every process. He sees his key role as working with others to innovate, generate solutions and, ultimately, support the delivery of
Wood received a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Management Information Systems from Washington State University. He earned a Master of Science in Information Systems Management from Seattle Pacific University and an MBA with a Healthcare Management Concentration from the University of Arizona, Eller College of Management.
Chief Administrative Officer, EvergreenHealth Monroe
Lisa LaPlante joined EvergreenHealth Monroe in 2010 to lead the Quality Division. She was promoted to Chief Operating Officer in 2017 to focus on service line enhancement and development and overall hospital operations. She has served as interim CAO since July 2019.
Born and raised in Rhode Island, LaPlante moved west in 1993 and accepting a manager position at a hospital-based home health agency in Moab, Utah. She spent the next 8 years expanding the service to include four additional branches, a hospice, and a certified diabetes education program. Prior to leaving Utah, LaPlante managed an urgent care clinic and also obtained licensure as a durable medical equipment provider.
In 2002, LaPlante accepted a position overseeing accreditation at Southwest Memorial Hospital in Cortez, Colorado, where she gained increased responsibility in the areas of quality, safety, utilization review, risk management, and plant operations. In 2007, she became a part of the executive team as the Chief Quality and Compliance Officer.
She lives in Monroe and is active member in the community, serving on the Snohomish County YMCA Board as well as the Snohomish County Leadership Council for the American Cancer Society.
LaPlante holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Care Services and a Masters in Healthcare Administration from the University of Phoenix.
Interim Chief Human Resources Officer
Jessika Groce is responsible for all facets of human resources and employee health at EvergreenHealth.
An experienced human resources leader who has managed all aspects of human resources, she joined EvergreenHealth in February 2000 working in recruitment and then employee/labor relations before moving into management. Between 2013 and 2015, she was Director of Human Resources at EvergreenHealth Monroe and most recently the Director of Employee and Labor Relations.
Jessika earned a BA in Speech Communication from the University of Washington and holds an MBA in Healthcare Management. She also holds Society of Human Resources Management (SHRM-CP) and Professional in Human Resources (PHR) certifications.
Chief Marketing, Communications & Customer Engagement Officer
Kay Taylor is responsible for marketing, public relations, Healthline, community and employee wellness, nutrition therapy, food services and Cafe 128.
Previous positions have included Trinity Health in Michigan and similar roles as Chief Marketing Officer for Clarian Health in Indianapolis and Greater Baltimore Medical Center in Maryland. Taylor joined EvergreenHealth in December 2010 from Exempla Healthcare, a three hospital system in Denver, where she was the system’s Vice President of Communications and Marketing for seven years. She has more than 30 years’ experience as a senior marketing executive in the health care industry.
She received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Alma College (Michigan) and is a member of several national health care organizations. She serves as a board member for the Kirkland Performance Center.
Chief Administrative Officer, EvergreenHealth Medical Group (EHMG)
Dr. Aileen Mickey works closely with EvergreenHealth’s physician and administrative leaders to provide strategic leadership for the medical group. She is responsible for optimizing organizational performance while working with 300+ providers to promote physician leadership and support a positive physician culture.
Dr. Mickey practiced at EvergreenHealth Pulmonary Care from 2009-2019, and is board certified in pulmonary medicine, internal medicine and critical care medicine.
Dr. Mickey holds a medical degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey and completed a fellowship at Boston University School of Medicine. She was recognized as Outstanding Chief Medical Officer by Seattle Business magazine in their 2020 Leader in Health Care Awards.
Vice President, Operations
Jeff Friedman is responsible for cancer services and the SCCA partnership, lab and imaging services, facilities and construction services, security and support services.
Friedman joined EvergreenHealth in December 2008, after serving two years as vice president of operations at Fort Sanders Sevier Medical Center in Sevierville, Tennessee. Prior to that, he spent 13 years in a variety of leadership roles at Morton Plant Mease Health Care in Dunedin, Florida.
Friedman earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in business psychology at Miami University and a Master of Healthcare Administration degree at the University of Minnesota. He is a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives and a member of the Lake Washington Institute of Technology Bachelor's in Public Health Advisory Board.
Chief Operating Officer, Post Acute Care
Monique Gablehouse is responsible for home health, hospice, palliative medicine, behavioral health and virtual health services.
Gablehouse joined EvergreenHealth in 1998 as a social worker and served in several supervisory roles. She was then promoted to Hospice and Palliative Care Director (2008), Home Care Executive Director (2010) and Vice President, Clinical Integration & Home Care/Hospice (2012) prior to the COO position in December 2019.
She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Washington, along with a Master of Social Work degree. She is on the board of Eastside Human Services Forum and LifeWire.
Vice President, EvergreenHealth & EvergreenHealth Monroe Foundations
Kae Peterson is responsible for the day to day activities of the foundation and manages a professional staff that is responsible for annual giving, events, major and capital gifts, and legacy giving.
Peterson joined EvergreenHealth in 2006 after nine years as the senior executive director for the Shoreline Community College Foundation, Community Relations and Strategic Planning. Prior to that, Peterson was the executive director of the Shoreline/South County Family YMCA a branch of the YMCA of Greater Seattle.
She has a Master of Arts degree in Education, and is active in the Redmond Rotary, the Association of Hospital Philanthropy and is a board member for the NDHO Association. Peterson is also an elected Fire Commissioner for King County Fire Protection District #16.
