My philosophy of care is respectful and careful listening to my patients and their loved ones. Their stories give a richness in detail of their journey with MS, so necessary to providing high-quality care. Healing comes from the development of a trusting partnership, to face and do battle together against an as yet incurable disease. I value each staff member at the MS Center, and our network of consultants who flesh out this partnership. My professional satisfaction comes in large part from being part of a high-quality comprehensive MS care center, where my patients have the opportunity to participate in clinical trials, and to receive continuity in supportive care, education and wellness.
I have the distinct honor of following in my late mother's footsteps, a neurologist at a time when a woman physician, let alone a specialist, was rare. Through college, and then in graduate school and medical school, I developed a growing appreciation for the neurosciences and immunology.
As I gained experience practicing medicine, I felt a strong affinity for patients with MS, and practice in this subspecialty area of Neurology has proved a very satisfying professional fit.
My husband and I moved from Virginia to Kirkland when I was offered the program directorship for Neurology at the EvergreenHealth MS Center in 2009. We have grown very fond of the Pacific Northwest, with its rich and diverse culture, and amazing outdoors. We enjoy "gentle" kayaking and hiking, gardening, going to jazz concerts, and playing with our golden retriever.

Reviewed on February 12, 2020 Dr. Simnad is so personable while being very thorough in discussion with me about my care and my concerns.
Reviewed on February 4, 2020 Other providers have given up & given blanket dx that don't fit symptoms when they can't figure out what is wrong. Dr. Simnad has persisted & is really trying to figure out what is going on. She shows genuine concern and is looking at all possibilities while clearly communicating. I will ABSOLUTELY recommend her. My best specialist that I have seen.
Reviewed on December 16, 2019 I wish more providers were like Dr. Simnad. She comes into the exam room well prepared for our visit and spends as much time as needed to do the exam, answer questions and give me the feedback I need.
