Board Certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation
Dr. Theodore (Ted) Brown is a board-certified member of the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. He is the Director of Neurorehabilitation at the MS Center at Evergreen, Evergreen Hospital Medical Center in Kirkland, Washington. His clinical emphasis is on maximizing function and mobility for patients with MS. His research interests are in symptomatic treatment and rehabilitation interventions for MS. He received his MD at Harvard, followed by internship and PM&R residency at the University of Washington, a Master of Public Health at UC Berkeley and a fellowship in Multiple Sclerosis at the University of Washington. He has numerous publications on MS and is an editor of the International Journal of MS Care. He has served on a subcommittee of the AAN on rehabilitation in MS and has done many workshops on exercise and rehabilitation for MS patients and physical therapists.
My role is to help patients deal with the challenges that come with a diagnosis of multiple sclerosis. This includes treating the underlying disease with disease-modifying drugs and assisting patients, management of MS-related symptoms such as cognitive problems, fatigue, and difficulty walking. We strive to work as a team, involving other staff members, rehabilitation professionals and consultants. Educating the patient and their family and providing a program to achieve maximum wellness and quality of life is a top priority.
Personal Information
I have always been drawn to people with disability. So, I chose Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation as my specialty. I find that working in multiple sclerosis is always challenging and rewarding on a personal level. I grew up in Colorado and California, the son of a nurse and a radiologist. After residency, I wanted to work with disadvantaged patients and spent 9 years at a leprosy and rehabilitation center in Northern Thailand. I came back with a lot of good memories and married a nurse who I met over there. Together, we have a son who is going to public school in Kirkland and always keeping his parents entertained. In my free time, I enjoy going to soccer games, jogging, gardening, listening to audio books. I am a dog-lover.
In the Community
I am on the Healthcare Advisory Committee of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and meet with three MS Support groups on a regular basis. I have helped teach a course to physical therapy, occupational therapy and orthotist students at the University of Washington annually since 2005.

Dr. Brown is an excellent doctor. He listens well. He has lots of good suggestions. He thinks quick on his feet. He's got a good sense of humor. He has great follow through and follow up on my questions. He's smart and persistent. I am generally not a person who likes to go see the doctor and it's easy for me to fall through the cracks and to stop going to doctors but I consistently check in with Dr. Brown because I value his opinion and interactions with him and he has been very good in caring for me. I trust his thinking.
