Dr. David Kim provides anesthesia care for patients from 3 months old to those who are 102 years old, from routine knee arthroscopies to complex brain surgeries. He believes the key to anesthesia care is anticipation and vigilance: to anticipate all scenarios and prevent problems from happening in the first place and to recognize and treat the problems immediately if they do happen. More than 15 years in the OR has given him the breadth of experience and knowledge necessary to give the highest quality of care.
When I provide anesthesia care to my patients, I literally think to myself, "If this was my grandfather or sister or aunt or son, how would I want him or her to be treated." It prompts to me to treat every patient with utmost care and diligence. This principle was reinforced to me recently when one of my family member had surgery. I thought and prayed the whole time while she was in surgery, "Please take great care of her."
I got married late in my life (when I was 48!) and the old saying "good things come to those who wait" has certainly been true for me: I am now blessed with a beautiful wife and a beautiful daughter whom I love more than anything else in this world. I love my family life; being a husband and a dad has brought me more satisfaction and joy than all the mountains that I've climbed or marathons that I've finished or any academic or professional accomplishments.
