EvergreenHealth CT Scan has been granted American College of Radiology (ACR) Accreditation for Lung Cancer Screening. The primary goal of lung cancer screening CT is to detect abnormalities that may represent lung cancer and may require further diagnostic evaluation. Such screening is the only method identified to date that allows for the preclinical detection of asymptomatic individuals at high risk for lung cancer. When appropriate, intervention significantly reduces lung cancer mortality.
The Lung Cancer Screening Program is a new program, a collaboration between EvergreenHealth Pulmonary and Diagnostic Imaging and the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA). To be screened, the patient must have a specific history of smoking and be assessed first by the Pulmonary Nurse Navigator.
