Nicole is a childbirth educator at EvergreenHealth since 2015. She received her childbirth educator training through Great Starts Seattle and has a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and special education from Central Washington University and a master’s degree in special education from the University of Washington.
After delivering her first child at EvergreenHealth, attending the Parent-Baby program and subsequently volunteering with the program for over a year, Nicole developed a passion for working with expectant and new parents. Previously, she spent nine years as a teacher in several Seattle school districts.
She and her husband Steve have one son together. Nicole enjoys spending time with her family, playing soccer, hiking and enjoying the great outdoors.
Amy comes to EvergreenHealth after nine years as a self-employed doula and primary caregiver for her three young boys. Amy completed childbirth educator training with Great Starts, Seattle in 2009 and finished doula training at the Seattle Midwifery School, now Simkin Center for Allied Birth Vocations at Bastyr University, in 2004. She obtained a bachelor’s degree in speech communication at the University of Washington in 1997.
Amy is passionate about labor and delivery and feels extremely privileged to take part in this personal experience with mothers and their families at EvergreenHealth. She is DONA and PALS certified.
She enjoys spending time with her husband and sons or, when a game is on, cheering for her beloved University of Washington Huskies.
Miriam joined EvergreenHealth as a childbirth educator in 2015. She received her certification through Bastyr University Simkin Center for Allied Birth Vocations.
Miriam spent 12 years in law enforcement before pursuing a career in childbirth education. She developed great respect for the EvergreenHealth Childbirth and Early Parenting Education department while attending Parent-Baby classes following the birth of her first daughter in 2011. Her second child was born prematurely in 2013, and received care in the EvergreenHealth NICU. Miriam uses personal knowledge gained from her family’s experience to support parents through the NICU journey.
Miriam and her husband have been married for 10 years, and love team parenting their young children. She enjoys traveling, cooking for her family, gardening and memory keeping. Miriam proudly has thousands of photos and words about her family documented in albums.
Christine began teaching lactation and parenting courses at EvergreenHealth in 1996. She is certified in both childbirth and lactation education and holds professional certification from Childbirth Education Association of Seattle, now Great Starts, EvergreenHealth Medical Center Professional Education and EvergreenHealth Perinatal Education. Christine earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Puget Sound, and a master’s degree from San Francisco State University.
Christine brings her talents as a former university lecturer to designing curriculum, teaching and working with pregnant and postpartum families in a healthcare setting. Her courses at EvergreenHealth blend compassionate care with research-based education. She is also a content developer and lecturer for EvergreenHealth Perinatal Education, providing breastfeeding training for professionals who work with new families.
She and her husband are parents of two sons and one daughter. Christine is an avid football fan and is passionate about cooking and theatre
Tina started teaching in 2001, spending her first ten years at EvergreenHealth, the next three years at other area childbirth centers and rejoining EvergreenHealth in 2014. Tina is a certified childbirth educator through Lamaze and ICEA, and is also a certified breastfeeding specialist and certified Gottman educator. She graduated from Cal-Poly Pomona with a bachelor’s degree in marketing.
Tina began her journey toward becoming an educator and a mother after having her first child at EvergreenHealth. Today, she is the mother of four children, and enjoys traveling throughout the U.S. as an on-site manager and customer service trainer for an event staffing company.
In her spare time, Tina loves to read, travel, write, paint and run.
Amanda joined EvergreenHealth in 2015 as a Certified Professional Midwife. She is a member of the North American Registry of Midwives and holds a bachelor’s degree in science.
Amanda, her husband and four young children moved to Washington State from India where she worked for over a decade providing pregnancy and childbirth training to improve maternal health in remote Himalayan villages. Amanda’s significant experience spent abroad has led to a deep understanding of the cultural differences in the women she works with. She also has a special interest in counseling abuse victims on birth plans.
Amanda spends her spare time gardening, making bread, jams and Indian food and having friends over for a hot cup of chai. She is fluent in Nepali and is learning Hindi.
Mary joined the Childbirth and Early Parenting Education team as a Childbirth Educator after falling in love with EvergreenHealth following the birth of her daughter. Mary graduated with a Bachelor in Sociology from Christopher Newport University and completed her Childbirth Educator training through the International Childbirth Education Association. Prior to joining the CEPE team, Mary’s background consisted of working in Human Resources at Seattle Children’s Hospital and prior to that, Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore Maryland.
Mary and her husband moved to the Seattle area from Virginia in 2014. They enjoy spending time with their young daughter and playing board games. Mary loves to cook, host parties and binge watch shows on Netflix.
Deborah came to EvergreenHealth in 2006 after several years volunteering with new parent groups in the community. She completed her childbirth educator certification with the International Childbirth Education Association (ICEA) and holds an additional certification as a lactation educator. Deborah is a Certified Gottman Educator and she completed parent coach certification® through the Parent Coaching Institute and Seattle Pacific University.
Deborah presents the Bringing Baby Home workshops at EvergreenHealth and is especially interested in helping parents manage screen time in their family life and understand the importance of play in children’s healthy development. She believes that parenting is important work, worthy of thought and effort and enjoys providing calm, compassionate support and up-to-date information to families as they grow.
Deborah is an avid reader. She and her husband have two sons and enjoy playing games and exploring new places as a family.
Melissa became the lead childbirth instructor for EvergreenHealth in 2013 after more than seven years as an instructor. Prior to teaching childbirth classes, she served as the program coordinator for Seattle Children’s Newborn Hearing Screening program at EvergreenHealth. She is certified in childbirth education by Great Starts Seattle, certified in lactation education and most recently, became certified by the International Childbirth Education Association. Melissa graduated from the University of Washington with a Bachelor of Science in speech and hearing sciences.
She discovered her passion for instructing new moms after the birth of her first child and experienced first-hand the value of prenatal education and postpartum support. Melissa is honored to be a part of her client’s childbirth journey and couldn’t imagine a better occupation.
Melissa and her husband have two children who were both born at EvergreenHealth. She enjoys running kids to little league, gymnastics, scouts and school activities; she also loves crafts, sewing, decorating her home and fly fishing with her husband.
Laura comes to EvergreenHealth with 4 years’ experience in the pediatric safety and risk prevention field, as an educator and volunteer. She is currently nearing completion of her Certified Childbirth Educator certification, with Great Starts. Becoming a parent 6 years ago ignited Laura's passion for building community and being a part of support networks for young families.
Laura enjoys spending time with family, playing with her two young boys, being an auntie, and volunteering for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
Tracy joined EvergreenHealth in 1992. She is a certified lactation educator and has received continuing education in toddler development through Lake Washington Technical College. Born and raised on the East Coast, she earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Ithaca College in upstate New York.
After delivering her first child in the Family Maternity Center, Tracy was inspired by the excellent care and service she received as a patient that she was honored to be recruited to the at EvergreenHealth team. Today, she serves as the lead instructor of the Parent-Baby program where her goal is to create a safe place for new parents to share the joys and challenges of parenting.
She and her husband have a grown son and daughter, and she enjoys traveling, walking, hiking, biking, being on the water, camping, cooking and reading. She is an avid amateur painter and enjoys her art co-op with her girlfriends.
