Dr. Michael Codsi is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in shoulder and elbow repair. During his orthopedic residency, Dr. Codsi learned how to perform joint replacement and tendon/ligament repairs from the surgeons who invented the procedures. During his fellowship, he spent three years researching the biomechanics of shoulder implants, the biology of tendon healing and the outcomes of complex shoulder reconstructions. That work was eventually was awarded a Cleveland Clinic Innovations award.
Since moving to the Seattle area, Dr. Codsi has continued his research on rotator cuff repairs and he helps educate clinicians, therapists and patients with educational seminars. He recently completed a rotator cuff repair study with 13 other study centers around the country, the results of which were published in two orthopedic surgery journals in 2013.
He is also a team doctor for the Everett Aquasox minor league baseball team.
Philosophy
Some conditions have simple, straightforward treatments while other have multiple treatment options that require an understanding of the risks and benefits of each treatment. That's why I work really hard to make sure my patients understand exactly what's wrong with their shoulder and thoroughly understand the treatment plan we discussed.
I make sure my patients understand their options before offering my advice about which option to choose. I like to think patients appreciate my care because I make them feel confident that they are getting the best treatment that will help them get back to their normal activities.
Personal Information
When not at work, I enjoy spending time with my wife and two young kids who love to play sports and generally wear me out. They like to tell people that their dad fixes shoulders and their mom fixes everything else!
In the Community
My wife and I enjoy supporting our favorite charity Tree House, which is a non-profit organization that gives foster children in King County a better chance to succeed.

Reviewed on August 10, 2020 I greatly appreciate Dr. Codsi's knowledge and "bed side" manner. He listens and doesn't make you feel like he needs to be somewhere. He makes you feel like you are important and worth his time.
Reviewed on August 3, 2020 Friendly, optimistic and started with a conservative treatment plan.
Reviewed on July 7, 2020 Dr Codsi explained that he wouldn't compromise my health by continuing a treatment that could end badly. surgery was the only option. Explained it to me as the best option. felt comfortable making that decision

Reviewed on February 11, 2020 always such a great experience. I really appreciate Dr. Codsi and his staff.
Reviewed on May 14, 2020 Unfortunately I left Dr. Codsi's office and sat in my car and cried. I went to see him for a shoulder problem that had been impacting me for five weeks. He spent what felt like no more than five minutes with me. He looked at the computer rather than me the majority of the time. I had a lot of questions but the fact that he wouldn't even look at me I felt like I couldn't ask them openly. He discussed wanting an MRI and if it wasn't a shoulder tear we would then do cortisone shots. He didn't explain what cortisone shots are or what they do or why they're necessary and why shoulder inflammation might not go away on its own. I hadn't slept through the night in five weeks from pain and I walked into Dr.Codsi's office hopeful for some answers and I was so excited to have better understanding about my problem and what was wrong. I left feeling defeated, and not like I was listened to at all. I've heard Dr.Codsi is absolutely the best of the best when it comes to being a shoulder surgeon. However, in my opinion, I feel being a good doctor means also having a pleasant bedside manner and helping patients to understand what's wrong. In his case it felt like he wanted to get me in and out the door. This was a truly disappointing experience.
