Kirkland, Wash. – EvergreenHealth announced today that The Leapfrog Group, a leading nonprofit watchdog organization on hospital quality and safety, has designated the health system as a Top General Hospital.
The Leapfrog Top Hospital award is widely acknowledged as one of the most competitive honors American hospitals can receive. This award highlights EvergreenHealth’s achievements in meeting the highest standards for patient safety and quality and follows the hospital’s recent “A” Hospital Safety Grade, also awarded by The Leapfrog Group.
“We are excited to be named by the Leapfrog organization as one of the top hospitals, as it is an acknowledgment of the commitment our organization has made to safety, quality and service over time,” said Jeff Tomlin, MD, CEO of EvergreenHealth. “We’re thankful to the Board and our team of providers, staff members and volunteers, who have come together to produce these results.”
About 2,100 hospitals were considered for the award. EvergreenHealth was one of 120 hospitals across the country to receive a Top Hospital distinction, and one of only three in Washington. Overall, the award recognized 10 Top Children’s Hospitals, 37 Top General Hospitals, 18 Top Rural Hospitals and 55 Top Teaching Hospitals.
Performance across many areas of hospital care is considered in establishing Leapfrog’s qualifications for the award, including infection rates, practices for safer surgery, maternity care and the hospital’s capacity to prevent medication errors. The rigorous standards are defined in each year’s Top Hospital Methodology.
In addition to receiving high scores from Leapfrog, EvergreenHealth has been named as one of Healthgrades’ “America’s 100 Best Hospitals” for three consecutive years and was recognized in U.S. News & World Report’s “2019 Best Hospitals” rankings, along with earning a five-star rating from CMS Hospital Compare. It was also named as 425 magazine’s “Best Hospital and Health System” for the sixth time in 2019.
“We are pleased to recognize EvergreenHealth as a 2019 Leapfrog Top Hospital,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “This demonstrates extraordinary dedication to patients and to the Eastside community. We congratulate the board, staff and clinicians whose efforts made this honor possible and know they share pride in this achievement.”
To qualify for the Top Hospitals distinction, hospitals must rank top among peers in the 2019 Leapfrog Hospital Survey, which assesses hospital performance on the highest known standards for quality and patient safety, and achieve top performance in its category.
