Kirkland, Wash. – EvergreenHealth recently honored two nurses with the DAISY Award, a quarterly recognition that honors nurses who go above and beyond to provide exceptionally compassionate care.
Meagan Razor, RN, a Neonatal Intensive Care (NICU) nurse, was nominated for the DAISY Award by a new mother who was touched by Razor’s attentiveness and compassionate care. Carrie Luedecker, RN, a nurse in EvergreenHealth’s Critical Care Unit, was nominated by a patient’s family member for not only providing excellent care to her loved one, but for going to extra lengths to care for her family, as well.
“We strive to provide the highest quality care and an exceptional experience to our patients and families, and our remarkable nurses help us fulfill that promise each and every day,” said Amy Beiter, MD, CEO of EvergreenHealth. “We’re proud to honor all of those who demonstrate our values as we partner with our patients and their families to advance the health of our community.”
While her newborn son was being cared for in the NICU, a new mother nominated Razor for sharing the opportunity to experience her son’s first bath together as a family, instead of taking it on as a routine task herself. In the mother’s words: “With a watchful (but not overbearing) eye, she encouraged us to take the reins, take our time, and savor our first activity together as a family of three. While we were doing so, unbeknownst to us, she took some pictures and videos that will be cherished forever!”
Luedecker was nominated by a patient’s family member for being instrumental in saving her sister’s life. The family member was grateful for Luedecker’s excellent care, not only for her sister, but for her and her family as well, noting that Luedecker would make up a bed in the room’s reclining chair and encourage her to rest. She described that, “Most of all, her daily hugs gave me strength and courage, as well as relief knowing she was caring for my sister.”
EvergreenHealth invites patients and visiting families to submit nominations year-round to recognize the nurses who make their visits to EvergreenHealth memorable with above and beyond care. Additionally, providers who witness extraordinary acts are invited to nominate their peers. DAISY Award recipients are honored by colleagues and patients during a ceremony in their care units each quarter.

About the DAISY Foundation
The DAISY Foundation was established in 1999 by the Barnes family in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who died (at the age of 33) from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP). DAISY is an acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune System. Touched by the remarkable care, clinical skills and compassion demonstrated by nurses during Patrick’s illness, the Barnes family made it their mission to recognize exceptional nurses around the country. Please look for DAISY nomination forms at EvergreenHealth’s nursing units, any of the volunteer desks, or access online by clicking here.
