Kirkland, Wash. – Practice Greenhealth recently honored EvergreenHealth for the ninth consecutive year with the 2018 Partner for Change Award, recognizing the organization for its continued outstanding environmental achievements and role as a leader in sustainability within the Eastside community.
The distinction highlights EvergreenHealth’s commitment to cohesively setting and meeting sustainability-related goals across its hospitals and facilities. The health system’s “Green Team” – made up of staff representing departments across the organization – has recently implemented a host of environmental initiatives, including an expanded recycling program, concentrated energy conservation efforts and promoting alternative transportation methods among employees.
“Just as we are accountable to enriching the health and well-being of our patients, EvergreenHealth is equally committed to advancing the health of our environment,” said Bob Malte, CEO of EvergreenHealth. “We recognize that human health and environmental health are closely linked, and resolve to be good stewards of the resources we use when delivering high-quality care to our community.”
Practice Greenhealth recognized EvergreenHealth for its annual Earth Day Fair, where local environmental organizations and hospital vendors educate EvergreenHealth employees, patients and visitors on how to reduce their environmental footprint, both at work and at home. This community- centric approach to implementing green practices has also earned EvergreenHealth recognition by King County as a Best Workplace for Recycling and Waste Reduction.
Practice Greenhealth is a national membership organization for health care facilities committed to environmental responsibility and sustainability, and awards the Partner for Change Award annually as part of its broader Environmental Excellence Awards program. The Partner for Change Award recognizes health care facilities that continuously improve and expand upon their green building practices and programs.
In addition to EvergreenHealth’s nine honors as a Practice Greenhealth Partner for Change, the system has been recognized by the organization for the Making Medicine Mercury-Free Award in 2014 and the Partner Recognition Award in 2009.
