Healthgrades Recognizes EvergreenHealth for Outstanding Patient Experience

Kirkland, Wash. – Today, EvergreenHealth was named a winner of the Healthgrades 2018 Outstanding Patient Experience Award™. This distinction, awarded to only five other hospitals in Washington state, recognizes the Kirkland-based health system among the top 15 percent of hospitals nationwide for exemplary patient care and service.

Healthgrades evaluates hospitals across 10 patient-experience measures, ranging from cleanliness and noise levels in patient rooms, to other factors such as pain management and provider communication about medication. The measures also include whether a patient would recommend the hospital to friends or family.

Nationally, almost 3,000 hospitals were eligible for the Healthgrades distinction, but just 439 organizations, including EvergreenHealth, outperformed their peers to achieve this year’s Outstanding Patient Experience Award. Additionally, the health system is one of just three hospitals in Washington state recognized by Healthgrades in 2018 for both patient experience and with a Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence™, placing it in the top 5 percent of hospitals nationwide for clinical performance.

To be eligible for a patient experience award, hospitals must also meet Healthgrades’ clinical performance thresholds and patients must submit a minimum of 100 survey responses to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) about their care.

“Patient experience surveys offer important insights about hospitals and their commitment to providing patients with outstanding experience, and furthermore, consumers value that information when making care decisions,” said Brad Bowman, MD, Chief Medical Officer, Healthgrades. “Hospitals that have received the Healthgrades 2018 Outstanding Patient Experience Award have received high marks from their most important stakeholders—the patients themselves.”

Earlier this year, EvergreenHealth Medical Group also ranked among the top four primary care medical groups in the state in Washington Health Alliance’s Your Voice Matters: Patient Experience with Primary Care in Washington State report. The recognition is based on all five primary care survey measures for “patient experience at the doctor’s office.”
