Kirkland, Wash. – EvergreenHealth is pleased to welcome Dr. Brad Tyson to its team of neuropsychological providers within the health system’s Neuroscience, Spine & Orthopedic Institute.
As a clinical neuropsychologist, Dr. Tyson specializes in neuropsychological assessment, which focuses on understanding the relationship between the brain and behavioral health in patients living with neurological and psychological disorders. Specifically, he treats patients with conditions including dementia, traumatic brain injury, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, substance abuse and chronic pain, helping them to maximize their everyday functioning and quality of life.
“Dr. Tyson plays a pivotal role in guiding and supporting patients who are addressing life changes associated with neurological conditions,” said Bob Malte, EvergreenHealth CEO. “He is a valuable addition to our comprehensive neuroscience program, as he shares EvergreenHealth’s mission to provide high quality and compassionate care.”
Neurological conditions like MS and Parkinson’s are chronic and progressive in nature. These conditions not only affect patients’ physical health, but also their mental health and emotional well-being. Providers at EvergreenHealth’s Neuroscience, Spine & Orthopedic Institute utilize a multidisciplinary approach to treat all aspects of these complex conditions, which includes social and psychological support.
Dr. Tyson’s primary goal when partnering with patients is to identify the nature and potential causes of any changes to cognitive, emotional or behavioral health. After exploring patients’ neuropsychological symptoms and examining the causes, he works closely with patients and their care team to develop a tailored treatment plan focused on improving their quality of life.
Dr. Tyson completed his predoctoral training at Queens Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii and went on to study at the Traumatic Brain Injury and Coma Recovery Unit of Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York. He later completed his postdoctoral fellowship at Dartmouth Medical School before returning to the Pacific Northwest.
Knowing that aerobic exercise benefits brain health and cognition more than any other activity, Dr. Tyson maintains an active lifestyle, something he’s done since a young age, and advises his patients to do the same.
In his free time, Dr. Tyson enjoys hiking in the Cascade and Olympic mountain ranges, as well as scuba diving and traveling.
