Kirkland, Wash. – The EvergreenHealth Board of Commissioners is proud to recognize the Elling and Barbara Halvorson family for their exemplary commitment to serving the community with the EvergreenHealth 2017 Community Service Award.
The Halvorsons have been dedicated public servants to EvergreenHealth and its surrounding community for many years, and the award honors their profound impact on enhancing the health and well-being of those served by the health system and beyond.
“Through their generosity and genuine care for our community, the Halvorsons have left an indelible mark on countless individuals across our community and within our organization,” said EvergreenHealth CEO Bob Malte. “We are so inspired by their contributions, which have supported EvergreenHealth in realizing our vision to become an inclusive community health system that is the most trusted source for health care solutions.”
The Halvorsons are enthusiastic supporters of the EvergreenHealth Foundation and their contributions have supported funding for several significant projects, including the construction of EvergreenHealth’s nondenominational chapel, the Booth Gardner Parkinson’s Center and, most notably, development of the health system’s cancer center, which bears their name.
Since moving to Washington in 1955, the Halvorsons have continually invested their time and resources into being dedicated corporate citizens. Over six decades, they have led 15 different companies in industries ranging from construction and aviation to entertainment. In each endeavor, they prioritized finding creative ways to protect the environment while maintaining a strong business climate.
Among their many personal and professional accomplishments, the Halvorsons were also recognized with the Spirit of Giving Award by the EvergreenHealth Foundation in 2008.
Each year, EvergreenHealth's Community Service Award recognizes local individuals or organizations who have had a profound impact on enhancing the community's health. Since 1998, honorees have included dedicated volunteers, health care activists and physicians who demonstrate recognizable service and commitment to EvergreenHealth, exemplify leadership in the community and help EvergreenHealth to achieve its mission and impart its values to the community.
This year’s award was presented to the Halvorsons on March 20 at the Board of Commissioners’ public meeting.
