Image of Dr. David Likosky, neurologist and stroke expert at EvergreenHealth in Kirkland, WA.Kirkland, Wash. – Dr. David Likosky, medical director of the EvergreenHealth Neuroscience Institute and cofounder of the Neurohospitalist Society (NHS), recently secured a grant and was named principal investigator for an 18-month initiative in partnership with the Society of Hospital Medicine to streamline the interventional stroke treatment process in health systems across the United States. The project is funded by Medtronic’s “Optimizing Neurovascular Interventions for Stroke Care” grant, and aims to maximize patient care by implementing operational best practices with the help of leading experts in the field.

“We are fortunate to have experts such as Dr. Likosky setting the highest standards for stroke care, not only at EvergreenHealth but also for inpatient stroke care in other regions of our country,” said Bob Malte, EvergreenHealth CEO. “Dr. Likosky and his team of experts will help hospitals across the nation deliver the best care, improving every stroke patient’s chances for successful recovery.”

Beginning in early 2018, NHS and SHM will send mentors to four academic and community hospitals to guide providers and staff in navigating and improving the stroke intervention care process, a challenge faced by health systems nationwide. Mentors will employ the SHM’s Mentored Implementation Model, designed to assist the hospital team members in best operational practices to successfully minimize the time between stroke patient symptom onset and intervention.
