Kirkland, Wash. – The Accreditation Committee of the College of American Pathologists (CAP) has awarded accreditation to EvergreenHealth’s Laboratory Services based on results of a recent on-site inspection as part of the CAP’s Accreditation Program.
During the CAP accreditation process, designed to ensure the highest standard of care for all laboratory patients, inspectors examine the laboratory’s records and quality control of procedures for the preceding two years. CAP inspectors also examine laboratory staff qualifications, equipment, facilities, safety program and record, and overall management.
“EvergreenHealth is committed to upholding the highest standards in laboratory safety in order to provide high quality care,” said Bob Malte, EvergreenHealth CEO. “Receiving this accreditation allows us to continually improve our processes while increasing the value these services bring to patients.”
EvergreenHealth Laboratory Services is one of more than 8,000 CAP-accredited facilities worldwide. Services include microbiology; pathology; general laboratory testing; point of care testing; phlebotomy; and clinical lab externship and training support.
The U.S. federal government recognizes the CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program, begun in the early 1960s, as being equal to or more stringent than the government’s own inspection program. CAP Laboratory Accreditation helps laboratories to meet Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) regulatory requirements; ensure compliance with comprehensive, evidence-based laboratory standards; and maintain accuracy of test results and ensure accurate patient diagnosis.
EvergreenHealth offers several lab locations to provide patients with convenience across the health system and around the community. To learn more, visit www.evergreenhealth.com/lab.
