EvergreenHealth Foundation Gala Raises $1.25 M to Benefit Family Maternity Center

Kirkland, Wash. – Community leaders, physicians and friends of EvergreenHealth gathered Saturday to raise $1.25 million at the organization’s annual gala to benefit laboring mothers and the families served by EvergreenHealth’s Family Maternity Center. Proceeds from the 15th annual Evergreen Gala will fund a new wireless fetal monitoring system to ensure the safe and comfortable delivery of the more than 4,500 babies who arrive at EvergreenHealth each year.

The 2016 gala, themed “Evening on the Savanna,” united more than 700 generous donors for an elegant safari-inspired celebration at King County’s Marymoor Park on Saturday, April 30.

“We are so grateful for the astounding generosity of our community, which continues to show us their unwavering support through their contributions and commitment to our important cause,” said EvergreenHealth CEO Bob Malte. “Their gifts this year will help us welcome our smallest patients in the safest, most comfortable way possible.”

This year’s beneficiary, the EvergreenHealth Family Maternity Center, seeks to ensure a personalized, comfortable, safe and joy-filled birthing experience that caters to the needs of laboring mothers in King and Snohomish Counties.

Gala proceeds will fund a new monitoring system that uses wireless technology to allow mothers to move freely during labor with greater peace of mind and less risk of disrupting the fetal monitor, which helps track baby’s vital signs. Without the constraints of wires, patients can use a variety of positions to enhance labor advancement and manage pain. Beyond providing more comfort for mothers, the freedom of mobility has been shown to help with fetal descent, fetal positioning and naturally increases labor progression.

EvergreenHealth plans to implement the enhanced system in all 36 labor rooms throughout the Family Maternity Center.

This year’s event also honored Lee Rhodes, founder and owner of glassybaby, with the Foundation’s annual Spirit of Giving award, which recognizes the best in community philanthropy and those whose selfless contributions are crucial to the health and wellbeing of the community.

From its beginning, glassybaby has donated money from sales to organizations dedicated to helping people heal. As of April 2016, they have donated more than $4 million to charities including the EvergreenHealth Foundation, Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, University of Washington Medical Center, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and many more.

The annual black-tie gala, presented by Wells Fargo, is the EvergreenHealth Foundation’s signature fundraiser, generating millions of dollars to support programs and departments across the organization.

Next year’s gala will take place on April 29, 2017 in King County’s Marymoor Park. To learn more about the EvergreenHealth Foundation and its commitment to community health, visit
