The Diabetes Prevention Program is a structured year long program that includes dietary coaching, lifestyle interventions and moderate physical activity.
The goal is preventing the onset of diabetes in people who are pre-diabetic, or who had gestational diabetes during a pregnancy.

After the 16 core sessions, less intensive monthly follow-up meetings help ensure that the participants maintain healthy behaviors.
The sessions will be facilitated by the Diabetes Education Staff at EvergreenHealth who have been certified as LifeStyle Coaches.

The program runs for 1 year.
You may think you learned enough in the first six months and can skip the second half of the program. But you’d be cheating yourself!
Making lifestyle changes is an ongoing process.
Staying in the program for the full year is essential to help you stick to new habits and avoid slipping back into old habits.
And if you have not reached your goals in the first half of the program, your lifestyle coach and other group members can help you succeed.

The group meets weekly from 12-1 p.m. at EvergreenHealth Medical Center in Kirkland.
Yes, there is an online program, which is a great option if you find it hard to attend regular on-site meetings.
You will be asked to complete online lessons and submit your weight and activity record each week.
You will also reflect on the week’s goal and record your progress.
The program cost is a covered benefit of several insurance plans, including Washington State employees. There is no charge to participate.
