Breastfeeding, Baby Care and Safety

We recommend that you register early in your pregnancy, as classes fill quickly.

You should plan to attend your childbirth preparation classes during your 6th - 8th month of pregnancy.  If you are expecting multiples, plan to attend during your 4th - 5th month.

BREASTFEEDING BASICS AND BEYOND
You will learn about breastfeeding your baby as recommended by all of the world's health organizations.

Topics include the benefits of breastfeeding, breast anatomy, feeding cues, establishing a good latch, nursing positions, ways for partners to support and be involved in breastfeeding, pumping and storing breast milk, troubleshooting and available supplies and resources.

Class instructor is a Certified Lactation Consultant.

We recommend that all first-time parents take this in-depth class to augment the breastfeeding information they will get in their Delivery Day classes and the Day About Baby class. 

Fee: $40/couple.

PUMPING CLASS
This class focuses on the pumping and safe storage of breast milk for mothers who are returning to work, or trying to build a milk supply.

The class includes information on pumps, tips and techniques as well as useful products and accessories. There is also a Q&A period.

We recommend you take this class during your third trimester or after your baby is born. Partners and babies in arms are welcome to attend. 

Class instructor is a Certified Lactation Consultant.

BREASTFEEDING YOUR OLDER BABY
This class provides support and education for moms who are continuing to breastfeed beyond the first six months.

Included is best practice information as suggested by the American Academy of Pediatrics and the World Health Organization.

It's a lively discussion about the cumulative health benefits of continued breastfeeding for both mom and baby, cultural pressures, developmental challenges, weaning and more.

The class is facilitated by a trained lactation educator.

DAY ABOUT BABY
A fun and informative day where couples will get hands-on learn about diapering, bathing, soothing, infant carriers, an introduction to breastfeeding and more. 

Fee: $100/couple.

CAR SEAT SAFETY
In this hands-on class, you will learn best practice recommendations to help your child travel safely, how to choose the best car seat for your baby and family, and how to install it correctly.

If you have already purchased a car seat, bring it with you, but it’s not necessary to purchase one before attending. Our instructors will provide you with information about features to look for when purchasing a car seat.

CAR SEAT CHECKUP
You have a carseat, but is it being used properly? 

Certified child passenger safety technicians will walk you through how to use your car seat, teach you how to install it correctly in your vehicle, and show you how to properly buckle your child. 

Bring your car seat, the instruction manual and vehicle owner’s manual to your check-up appointment.

INFANT AND CHILD CPR
Participants receive a CPR Card valid for two years. Does not include First Aid. Must be over 12 years of age to take class.

Fee: $45; $15 discount if also enrolled in Babysitting Basics

INFANT SAFETY AND INJURY PREVENTION: JUST FOR PARENTS
Everything new or expectant parents need to know about keeping their baby safe at home and at play is packed into this two hour class.

Topics include basic child development, safe sleep recommendations, car seat basics, medication safety, baby-proofing and home safety.

This class does not include Infant CPR/First Aid instruction.

Fee: $20/person

INFANT SAFETY AND INJURY PREVENTION: JUST FOR GRANDPARENTS
Everything new or expectant grandparents want to learn about baby and infant safety is packed into this two-hour class.

When it comes to child safety, a lot has changed; let us help you brush up on the basics of baby care and teach you some new tricks. based on the latest best-practice recommendations.

Topics include basic child development, safe sleep recommendations, car seat basics, medication safety, baby-proofing and home safety, and supporting the new parents.

This class does not include CPR/First Aid Instruction.
