Investing In Our Community

The EvergreenHealth Kirkland campus began in 1968 as a public hospital district. The Kirkland hospital, originally named Evergreen General Hospital, was created to give northeast King County residents access to needed healthcare services in their community. As a public hospital district, EvergreenHealth is funded in part by taxpayer contributions, which means we are accountable to the residents in our district and ensure that all of our investments are made thoughtfully and responsibly. This accountability is not only in our leadership structure but is also defined by law as well as in the very mission that inspired EvergreenHealth's existence.

This is why taxpayer contributions to our hospital are spent wisely on projects and programs that directly benefit you, our patients and our entire district, with every major financial decision needing approval from our Board of publicly elected commissioners. Our residents can also directly weigh in on these decisions during the public comment period at the beginning of regular Board meetings each month. You can also see how our system is performing financially by taking a look at our annual report, which we release every year and gives a detailed overview of how funds were directed and used to benefit our patients and our district's residents.

By identifying our growing community's needs, we have proactively invested in projects like our Family Maternity Center and our Intensive Care Unit, which we recognize will become even more important services as our community continues to age and expand. In addition to growth projects, we also invest in our community partners who address residents' top concerns like mental health and education.

EvergreenHealth is able to focus on our community and your needs, unlike other hospitals, because we are the last independent hospital system in the region. This means we are not run by a national healthcare corporation or otherwise affiliated religiously or with another organization, giving us the ability to put 100% of our efforts into serving our diverse residents with equal access to high-value care.

As we grow and age, our healthcare needs change. So too do the healthcare needs of each individual community. Using every tool at our disposal, EvergreenHealth ensures our services and the scope of our care grows and adapts alongside the expanding and changing population we serve.

Levy-Funded Programs & Services

Your levy dollars make possible the numerous free and low-cost services we provide for vulnerable and underserved individuals, as well as everyone in our community. These programs include mental health services for our youth and public workshops to help residents with nutrition, fitness and general life skills.

Emergency Preparedness

As a community-owned hospital, it is a priority for EvergreenHealth to make sure our hospital and services will be available to our community when it matters most. That is why we have made investments over recent decades to be prepared for unexpected crises like viral outbreaks and pandemics as well as natural disasters, including large-scale earthquakes. We also invest in supporting you through education by providing emergency preparedness classes.
